October 17, 2003 - Captain Sarai

I think I am finally breaking out of my block... now, after these two good "art therapy" pieces I think I am ready to finish up my pile of trades. That should be another weight of my shoulders as well, then perhaps I can finally start a personal project of my own. A story, a comic, maybe even do some animation again (it's been so long!)... I don't know, we'll see.

This is my roleplaying character, the pirate captain Sarai, from my friend Kerry's Exalted campaign.

At work right now, but actually enjoying myself ^_^ My boss' dog just had surgery so he brought her into the office so she didn't have to be alone. He is away on appointments all this morning so my job to keep her in my office and watch that she does not try to chew at her stitches. I think I can do that! =^___^=

*awakens from seemingly eternal slumber*

*blinks* Man... how many months has it been? For those you who didn't know, I have been trapped in the biggest art block of the century! (or so it seems) Plus that, my personal time has dropped to an even lower amount of hours. Lack of time, inspiration and just feeling so tired have really effected my art. I just have not been able to draw, and every time I try, it just seems to intensify my stress level. I gotta just chill... ^_^

To those of you who I still owe trades, I am so very sorry. I have not forgotten any of you and am working as best I can to catch up. Thank you all for your understanding and patience with me.

I think I'm starting to get back into the "groove". I did manage to finish one picture... yes, just one in all these months, but hey! It's something! I'm also pleased to say it is a completed drawing of Demitrius that I actually think has a reasonable likeness (for those of you who know how obsessively I had been trying to draw him).

Anyhoo, you've heard enough of me I'm sure ^_~ Here's the pic!

Here's the ink version... it's a bit different. I removed a bunch of lines in the color version.

Whew... I bet you thought I was dead. It's been what, a month and a half since my last post??? Well, it's been that long since I've drawn anything. I've been in my biggest art block yet... I need to get myself a big mallet and just break on through... better yet, I need a vacation!!!

Well, actually, I did manage to produce one piece of art during that time. brianned wanted me to draw her fursona. She wanted to be a badger with light markings and no muzzle... but I think she ended up looking a bit more like a panda >_< The muzzle would have helped to make a difference, but I think I also may have made the ears too big for a badger. I dunno, what do you think?

This picture was done with Tria and Prismacolor markers, colored pencil, acrylic ink and watercolors on Bristol. (Man, I love mixed media ^_~)

Wow! This is the first anthro I've drawn in quite some time! This is Spooky for Christi Smith Hayden, aka. Spike. of therockaway.com. Spooky was a fun and refreshing character to draw. I think I may have made her head a bit too big (doh!) but even still, I like it :) Markers and colored pencils on Bristol.

I decided I'd participate in the "Trading Post" this time around over at the Yerf Binaries. I've been wanting to do a picture of Lyosha for a while and this was as good as an excuse as any ^_~ I hope you like it Amy!!!

In case anyone is wondering, this was done with Markers (Prismas & Trias), Colored Pencils, White Acrylic Ink and Watercolors on Bristol. Yay for Mixed Media!!! :D

Aoren for Rillystar. I had tons of fun with this one. Her description said that he had long, beautiful hair, so I really wanted to do a picture that reflected that aspect of him. I remembered being pleased with the way hair looked with colored pencils on toned paper, so I thought I'd revisit that technique for this picture. It's been a while since I got to go all out with long, flowy hair :)

This is Crim for Spike. Yay! I got to draw a gargoyle! It's been a long time since I've last drawn one, especially the type with a muzzle so it was a bit of a challenge. This is the kind of challenge I welcome though :) I toyed around even more with watercolors in the background and the shadows. Yep, I'm really starting to like watercolors ;)

April 15, 2003 - Website Design

I don't normally post anything like this, but I'd like to see what kind of feedback I get. Some of you may already know, but for those of you who don't I am a career Web Designer/Programmer. Most of the sites I do are very conservative (seeing that I live in a little farm town) but my latest client wanted something a little more "loud" and something that would appeal to your average 18 year old. I've never really shown anyone my website designs before because I thought they would be boring, but I guess they can be considered a form of art too, no?

Anyhoo, I won't make a habit of this but since it's a bit of an experiment for me I'd like to see if it actually appeals to others. The site can be seen on it's temporary directory here: (http://www.ezsolution.com/weebee/index.asp) The links don't function as of yet, but do put your mouse over the "Car Audio/Video" and "Home Audio/Video" buttons. It'll be good to know if this works in other browsers too :)

Whew... this one was extremely tough to do. I know the anatomy is horrible, but I had to do this one a little last minute -_- Two character interactions are not something I am too used to, but I appreciate the practice :) This is Enerjak and her boyfriend Greg. Happy Anniversary you two!!! :D

Wow, this was a pretty productive weekend for art... yay me! I even got to do a piece for me :) I was toying around with watercolor (as well as my usual marker and colored pencil) on this one. I'm for the most part happy with it. There are some areas I would have redone, but it was a learning experience. This was yet another piece my scanner rebelled against... the wings are supposed to be deep purple (not bluish) with pink and blue hi-lights. Oh well, just pretend you see them ;)

March 30, 2003 - Private Exchange - Emiko

I recently signed up for a private art exchange project in which a group of artists (6 per group) each chooses one of their characters, and then for the next six weeks one character is chosen every week for the group to draw. I decided I would give it a try as it would give me the chance to draw a bunch of different types of characters and get some more practice at humans... that and it'll get my butt in gear to actually draw. There is a deadline afterall. Deadlines get me to work ;)

It's been two weeks so far and I'm starting to feel artistically refreshed :) I'm hoping by the end of this my art block will be broken once and for all. Anyhoo... on to the pictures! Here is trade #1 for Emiko of her character Daerinnid. I tried a bit of a different style with this one... I think it has an interesting look.

March 25, 2003 - A Winter's Hunt

I told myself this weekend that I was going to sit down, take my time, and actually draw something worthwhile... this is what I came up with. I'm relatively happy with it, I just have some serious anatomical issues but I'll resolve them in my "clean-up" version. Sorry it's so messy... I'm a messy doodler. Sadly, this is actually much cleaner than my normal sketches >.<

I'm not sure I'm going to keep her right hand how it is... I toyed around with the idea of having her holding a weapon, but decided against it. I may end up trying again, or at least something different... I dunno...

I really need to do a finished piece... it's been too long... and this time I want to take my time and do it right. Any suggestions on stuff to add or fix before I begin the clean-up drawing?

(Btw... the "dark" tree branch behind her on the right side of the picture is going to go... I just didn't erase it yet. I'm thinking about making this a night scene and putting a moon behind the thin, wispy branches.)
